Debunking 6 Myths about People in the Sex Industry

November 5, 2014 by Laura Kacere and Sandra Kim

They navigate and move between the spaces of visibility and invisibility, criminal and citizen, safety and danger, exploitation and empowerment.

People engaged in the commercial sex industry are constantly navigating these margins.

Amidst stigma and invisibility, they suffer high rates of violence and discrimination, and yet are too often left out of the conversation around violence against women. (more…)

WACKY WEDNESDAYS; Inflatable Love

Blow up ewe
Welcome to my newest addition, WACKY WEDNESDAYS, a collection of the strange I have found from many locations all over, presented here for you to learn and develop your own opinions from, be they funny or not. Trust me I take them with a grain of salt, and a healthy heaping of laughter!
We’ve all read and possibly seen the new love interests taking the lonely, and not so lonely by storm, inflatable love toys.  I have my opinions on the subject and mostly I see it as a serious bit of fun, one that I don’t take to seriously and certainly not in the context of love. Hell I even want a room full of them blown up to their full glory so I can bounce on them like a kid in room full of balls or balloons void of the urine. However, my intentions my be construed as a little more creepy, as I do LOVE to provoke and push buttons as a Domina with a sly sense of cruelty. Why wouldn’t I want to lock someone in that room, bound, gagged, (more…)

Lets Not Import Canada’s Sex Work Bill

Lets Not Import Canada’s Sex Work Bill

Canada’s new proposals criminalize johns, while decriminalizing those engaged in prostitution.

  • Pace Society/TwitterThough it has received little coverage in American media, Canada has spent the past 10 months in an intense debate about its prostitution laws. Last December, the nation’s Supreme Court struck down basically all anti-prostitution laws on the grounds that they violated Canada’s Constitutional Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The elimination of prostitution laws will go into effect this December, and the Conservative Canadian government has been rushing to get a replacement in place that will satisfy the Supreme Court. Sexy This Week; A Bulging Crotch

mens crotches in jeans

Sexual objectification of the human male is fun and sexy, and let’s remind ourselves, men have been doing it to women for quite some time. Size does matter, and the men know it. They present it, seek out methods to enhance it, and relish in the fact that folks are looking. A bulging crotch presented in full glory is what’s sexy this week.

Bulging crotches that press up against the trappings of the coverings that conceal them are admired by all that are brave enough to admit to staring at them. Sitting at crotch height gives the perfect vantage point for getting a full on good look. Fantasies of size, shape, colour, girth, over take us all in our dirty little imaginings.

Cut or uncut, pierced, tattooed, decorated to the owner’s specifications. Is it a semi that makes it bulge, is it naturally that size soft, is it a cock ring, or padded? Yes padded, better yet packing! Delightful dreaming of what lies beneath concealed. Dreams of unleashing the beast from within, the beast of the male presentation of masculinity worn up and out there, just like memories of the playtex bra that lifted, supported, and jon-hammseparated. Women know the power of the breast, and the men are finally getting it with the power of the bulge.

Does it hang to the right, softly to the right, or straight down the middle? Pointed, full and meaty, skinny and long? Wild and woolly, trimmed and neat, shorn close cropped, or shaved soft and smooth? Balls that are tight close, free without to much swing, or seriously low hanging?staring from sunglasses

Tighty whiteys, thongs, briefs, boxer briefs, long line athletics? Underwear with a built in cock ring, a pouch to support the goods up and forward, away from the thighs, sliver thread inserts to draw away moisture for those athletically inclined.

The smell, the touch, the look, the taste, the sound. Do it! Blatantly stare, make it obvious, and the men uncomfortable, or not.

Now isn’t that fun? To objectify a man, a man’s crotch?

Tidbits; Think Of The Children

Conversations around sex and sex work have always been a challenge, but especially so, when children are around. Folks seem so conflicted when it comes to any form of education, advocacy, images, representations or even depictions, implied or not. Now me as the eternal devil’s advocate I am always asking why, what’s this conflict, where does it come from? The reasons are endless, fortunately for me, I’m in social circles that have a very healthy outlook on sex, sex of any kind, or anything in general to do with it. We talk about, look at it, have it, express it, and of course educate the young around us. No we’re not having it front of them, or producing images, writings, or other as they’ll find it on their own, the curious always do, but those I know, definitely don’t shy away from it.

So, let’s think of children! Does that mean we should keep them forever sheltered about what is going in the world? The world of our physiological needs, biological needs? Needs for the most part that are beyond our control. (more…)

September 17: FIRST Keynote Forum. Sex Work in New Zealand: “Eleven Years of Decriminalisation: the Sky is Still Blue.”

For immediate release September 10, 2014

September 17: FIRST Keynote Forum Sex Work in New Zealand:

“Eleven Years of Decriminalisation: the Sky is Still Blue.”

VANCOUVER: Following right on the heels of the Special Senate Committee hearings into Bill C-36 this week in Ottawa (the anti-prostitution bill), advocacy groups for sex workers will host a keynote forum on September 17 in Vancouver, with a special keynote speaker from New Zealand: Catherine Healy of the New Zealand Prostitutes Collective.

Ms. Healy will describe how New Zealand has been successfully fostering a safer working environment for sex workers for 11 years, without increases in trafficking, underage workers, or overall number of sex workers. The country was the first to decriminalize sex work in 2003 with its historic passage of the Prostitution Reform Act.

“In Canada, the Conservative government’s proposed prostitution law, Bill C-36 is strongly opposed by sex worker groups and active sex workers, because they know it will replicate the same kinds of harms as under the previous laws struck down by the Supreme Court last December,” said Joyce Arthur, founding member of FIRST Decriminalize Sex Work (a national feminist sex worker advocacy organization based in Vancouver that lobbies for the decriminalization of prostitution in Canada).

“The experience of New Zealand that Catherine will speak about should send a strong message to Ottawa that there is a proven, better way to protect both communities and sex workers from harm,” said Arthur. “Bill C-36 criminalizes consensual adult sex on moral and ideological grounds, which only serves to put people at risk, isolate them from health and social services, and violate their constitutional rights.”

Media are cordially invited to attend.

Catherine Healy will also be available for media interviews during daytime hours on Tues Sept 16 and Wed Sept 17
(Please contact Katrina Caudle to arrange – see page 2 for Contacts.)

Catherine Healy is a founding member and now the National Coordinator of the New Zealand Prostitutes Collective (http://www.nzpc.org.nz/). She is also a former member of the government appointed Prostitution Law Review Committee, and co- editor of “Taking The Crime out of Sex Work“. Sexy This Week: Fitness Through Discipline

fitness discipline

Good mental and physical health is essential to our well being, we all know that, we’re all taught that from an early age. Having the “where with all” to maintain it, that’s a different story, a life long journey, and to some, a challenge that requires a serious amount of will power. Getting up each and every day to do your exercise isn’t always motivation that comes naturally, not a lot in this world these days is natural and you have “yours truly” to attest to that. What it requires is some serious discipline, serious self discipline, and fitness through discipline is what’s sexy this week.

Each day I go to the gym for my workouts I am greeted by the hard working, committed trainers that go out each and every day to provide their knowledge and care to those that need it. Sharing their expertise and commitment to good mental, and physical health. Let’s get one thing clear, they are human to, and you can bet your bottom dollar they go through the same things any other person involved in the world of fitness does, the challenges to keep up the pace. Not everyone bounds out of bed with a smile or endless energy, not everyone has a clear healthy mind, not everyone is ready for the day. It takes discipline to push yourself through and beyond,  to do so everyday, and only you have the control to do so, no one else.

Recently I did a 24 hour road trip, 12 hours there, 12 hours back, being cooped up in a car non-stop each way. I keep telling myself it is relaxing, calming, I can read my books, magazines, listen to music, have a nap, watch the scenery go by and hope for a glimpse of the wild life that’s here in beautiful British Columbia, but for fuck’s sake, IT’S EXHAUSTING! Who am I trying to kid, I barely napped, didn’t read at all, found the music irritating, and yes, truly did enjoy the black bears, and elk along the way, but the rest, you can have it!velvetsteele-curves

I did venture to the gym at my destination, and that was seriously refreshing, however on my return I started to get back into my routine but on my second day back, slept through an early morning TRX class. Me the “uber” Domina couldn’t even get my own lazy, undisciplined ass out of bed! WTF!!?? I only had myself to blame, no one else, I felt crappy, lazy, and seriously apologetic that I left a hole in my trainer’s class, cause my butt was to snuggled in!

In the words of NIKE, just do it! Get out there and feel good, breathe deeply the beautiful air, work that body, get the blood pumping, and put a smile on that face!
