I’m a commodity, commodity me! Most of us know what “commodity’ means, when applied to inanimate objects, but when applied to living beings, heavens forbid, a furor ensues. The belief held by many, that human beings just cannot, be commodified! Well guess what, you’re wrong!
I’m a sex worker, a service provider of fetish and a good portion of interests therein. I write a ‘good portion’ simply because I have my boundaries, I’m not a “free for all” provider, but a professional that caters to a select set of interests. Just ask me, I’ll gladly supply you with that info.
Along the way I learned a lot about placing ads to advertise myself, and my services. Ads that were text, text with photos, and in the early days or phone chat lines, voice ads. Ads that showcased me, and my services that always appeared in the proper sections provided by the host advertising avenue. Ads that for good reason, were about me.
I knew what I was up to, and focusing on my unique appearance and interests was just the way to get those clients. I commodified myself, no one else did it, me and only me, it was my choice, my idea, promotion of my crafting. There was no gun to my head, or abuser, or pimp, just me. No bad habits, no desperation, no nothing of the sort.
Let’s start from the beginning; I’m 6’1” tall, or 189cm, blonde hair (bleached now) with green eyes, physically fit (because I exercise daily) with measurements that read 36G 30 39 at 190lbs and size 11 feet for all you foot fetishists. My skin is ghost white, (you can see through it to my veins, jury still out for me on that, and no tanning is not an option) so yes I’m Caucasian. I’m unique to myself and the clients that are seeking or in need of someone like me!
No, the world of sex worker advertising is not a ‘free for all” of wanton ads with clients seeking out every provider for random thrills and chills. Rather, it’s a tool to showcase each service provider with their own unique product and or brand that clients view to seek out those specific providers. The finely perfected skill of “ad creation” providers themselves have honed to sell themselves, their unique skills, service provision, as the commodities they are, and or have created.
What the offended masses don’t understand, and most likely never will, is that we are not the same as one and another. We cater to a multitude of variance in our respective interests. We have different looks, personalities, interests, services, hours, and rates. We are autonomous workers with agency. We like it that way, actually we love it that way!
Because we choose to do as we do, does not mean we demean or undermine ourselves of our confidence and truth to ourselves. We celebrate ourselves, our colleagues, our work. We celebrate our uniqueness, our differences, and our services.
It’s good to be different, to be loud, proud, and our own commodities!
